Founded in 1982, Building Specialties Co., Inc serves the commercial construction industry as a door, frame, and hardware supplier in Norcross, GA. Chris Caudell, the company’s General Manager for six years, champions their commitment to accuracy and excellent customer service. After first purchasing Software for Hardware in 2019, Building Specialties recently migrated from running SFH on their in-house server to now using the Software for Hardware Cloud.
WHY SWITCH TO THE CLOUD?
Chris Caudell described two main reasons for switching to Cloud technology. First, he wanted the flexibility of remote working without needing access to the company’s VPN. “The VPN worked, but it was extremely slow,” Chris said. “It made working remote difficult.” The second reason: maintenance and upkeep. “Software for Hardware manages the IT on their end, and we don’t have to worry about our server constantly being updated and running out of space,” Chris said. “Moreover, SFH Cloud offers us peace of mind. If the building experienced a power failure, fire damage, or theft, we don’t worry about losing all our data.”
HOW WAS THE MIGRATION PROCESS?
When asked about the migration process itself, Chris said, “It was pretty seamless. The team did a fantastic job getting us set up. We left on Friday and came in on a Monday and poof, it was there.”
WHAT HAVE BEEN THE MAIN BENEFITS?

Remote work stands out as the biggest benefit to Building Specialties’ workflow. “Life happens, kids get sick, appointments come up,” Chris said. “I wanted people to feel like they could be efficient away from the office. And be able to take their laptop and get things completed without worrying about connectivity.” Chris recounted working in Software for Hardware while on a Delta flight at 30,000 feet. “If I had to go through the VPN, through the old way, it would not have worked very well,” he said. Chris also spoke about the improved IT support. “The support is definitely a lot faster. Before, the team had to reach out to our IT people and have that back and forth. Now it’s instantaneous, which is nice.” Chris agreed that the benefits of SFH Cloud far outweigh the costs, and Building Specialties intends to remain on the SFH Cloud long-term.
